ESRI is the US parent company of ESRI Australia. The school portion of this site has ArcLessons which allows you to download GIS projects and lessons free of charge. Downloads of new GIS fixes and platforms like ArcExplorer are easily accessible. A very useful site.
The World Development site provides yearly updates for a range of valuable data for geographers. A range of data is available for countries around the world including Health, Education, Economy, Environment, Social and Political data. The data's currency ranges from approximately 2002 to 2004.
This NASA website provides excellent satellite images that can be geo-references for GIS projects. Great ideas for projects at this site as well. Hazard images are available constantly for current issues around the world.
Great site to locate Hurricane, Typhoon and Cyclone data and paths. Has been changed recently making saving data more difficult. Still easiest site to download data for Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones in the different regions of the world.
